CornholeDotCom : Cornhole Board Review

cornholedotcom-everything

The unpainted boards from Cornhole.com are impressively constructed, light weight, and really quite impressive.  The key to these simple boards is the great attention to detail.  Corners are rounded, the wood is sanded perfectly smooth, and the joint where the sides meet the top is even created in a way that the look is seamless. The Boards from Cornhole.com came well packaged.  There is a thin layer of styrofoam all the way around the boards, including the corners.  The boards I received were intact and sufficiently protected.  The item I received from Cornhole.com is similar to what they refer to as the “starter kit.”  It has natural finished cornhole boards, 8 regulation cornhole bags, board and bag carrying tote bags, and 2 drink coozies. Like they say, it’s pretty much everything you’d need to play Cornhole.  The actual starter kit on the Cornhole.com site comes with score towers, too.  All a pretty sweet deal at $150.

The boards are framed with Poplar, which is light and reduces the overall weight of the board. The board top is plywood, as is standard for most cornhole boards.  The boards are very smoothly sanded.  They’re well put together and professionally made.  Even though the boards are not painted, they’re made well enough that you could start playing on them immediately.  You may choose to paint them later, but you shouldn’t have to.  The legs of the board are angled to lay flat on the ground.  The legs are made with 1×4’s, so they’re a little less heavy-duty than some boards, but that also gives these boards the advantage of being considerably lighter.  The crossbar between the legs helps with overall stability.  The lighter wood doesn’t make these feel cheap, just lighter. The bags from Cornhole.com are your standard cornhole bags ( review coming soon in the bags section ) The carrying totes are a VERY cool addition, and are something unique to Cornhole.com (as far as I’ve seen).  The large bag is big enough to hold both of the cornhole boards.  They’re not super heavy duty, but should last you a fair amount of time.  The smaller bag perfectly fits a set of 8 cornhole bags.  You’d even have space to toss in a couple extra, if you have them.

Pros & Cons

Pros: The nicest unpainted boards I’ve reviewed to date.  The boards are professionally made, and will stand up to hard use.  The boards are free of rough edges, and really have a quality feel to them.  These boards are also very light and easy to haul.

Cons: The 1×4 framing could mean these boards won’t hold up quite as long as their 2×4 framed counterparts.  However, the lighter weight and quality construction alleviate those concerns.  Very few cons, these are nice boards.

Board Specs: (as provided by the manufacturer)

Dimensions: Our boards reflect the high quality of Midwestern craftsmanship with mitered corners and an in-laid table. Our Poplar wood frame reduces the overall weight of the board while maintaining its strength and integrity. The board’s “table” is made of plywood, which is a requirement of the American Cornhole Association (ACA). It is important to comply with ACA rules because this helps to keep the game consistent from backyard to backyard. Because of the skill of our carpenters, our boards are as good as or better than any that you will find. You simply cannot build a better board. We hope you enjoy the Midwestern craftsmanship in the Cornhole.com boards.
