Play Cornhole at Night

You can finally play Cornhole at night.  Anytime, anywhere.  Midnight Cornhole has created an amazing set of light up cornhole boards.  Like most people, I’ve struggled with nighttime game play.  Cornhole Lanterns are great for lighting the hole, but the playing area and board face are still hard to see.  Flood lights are cool, but you usually have to play with lights in your eyes.  Midnight Cornhole has found the solution to all of those problems.  The boards are bright without being blinding, and the glow from underneath creates a pool of light all around the boards, too.  You can see your bags in the grass!  If you’ve ever had to cut a great day of Cornhole short because of darkness, you should put some serious thought into purchasing some of these boards from Midnight Cornhole.  They’re awesome.

Game Review

Packaging: Midnight Cornhole boards are packaged really well.  There’s no way these boards are getting damaged during shipment.  There is foam on all sides, and a piece of wood carved to protect the handle and switches.  Very well packaged.

Construction: Awesome.  These boards are really impressive to look at.  The top is made of 3/8” clear acrylic.  The playing surface is very smooth.  The wood frame is made of ¾” cabinet grade solid poplar.  This wood is primed and finished with several coats of industrial enamel.  Epoxy encased bright modular LED strings are used for the lighting.  They’re high quality, and very bright.   The boards can be powered in two ways.  8 C-cell batteries can be used, or the boards can be plugged in to a regular outlet.  It’s very cool to have the choice of 2 power supplies, and extends the places these boards can be used.

Gameplay: These boards actually play pretty similar to regular boards.  The acrylic top is very smooth, similar to a set of boards with a high gloss polycrylic.  The boards are very lightweight, but they stay put really well, and there isn’t much for bounce.  The boards stay well lit, and are easy to see during game play.  The glow from the lights really helps to find your bags at night, too.

Pros: Cornhole at night!  Lightweight and very portable.  Battery or electric powered.  Bright, long lasting lights.
Cons: These puppies aren’t cheap.  Game play is similar, but slightly different to wooden boards.

Overall: I was blown away by these boards.  I expected them to be cool, but they’re honestly really awesome.  I’ve always wanted a better way to play Cornhole into the night, and this is definitely the way to go.  Yes, they’re expensive, but it’s a solid investment.  You’re going to get years of use out of these boards, and everybody who plays on them is going to be impressed!

Clear Plexiglas Top

The top is made of 3/8” clear acrylic.  The playing surface is very smooth.  We have found that this ultra smooth top can feel almost sticky during game play with some types of bag fabric when it is too clean.  We recommend the use of real corn bags to provide the necessary lubrication for correct game play.  In lieu of real corn bags some simple cornstarch from the kitchen can be sprinkled on the board before play begins.

Wood Frame

The wood frame is made of ¾” cabinet grade solid poplar.  This wood is primed and finished with several coats of industrial enamel.  The rear frame is reinforced with an additional piece of ¾” plywood to support the legs during game play.

Lights

Epoxy encased bright modular LED strings are used for the lighting. Each module encases three LEDs. All of these LEDs are rated for a minimum of 50,000 hours. That would be continuous for almost six years. These LEDs were chosen specifically for their output and durability.

AC Power Adapter

Each set comes with an AC power adapter for each board.  These will work with any standard two-prong outlet.

Battery Pack

There are two 4 cell battery packs on each board.  Each of these holds 4 standard C-cell batteries.  From our testing, 8 new Duracell batteries will light the board for over 100 continuous hours.

Switch

A full size toggle switch is used to direct power to the lights.  One side of the switch turns the AC power on, the opposite side turns the battery power on.  The middle is the off position.  This prevents the AC power from ever conflicting with the battery power.

Legs

The legs are made out of 1/2″ schedule 40 aluminum pipe. The true outside diameter of this pipe is just over 3/4″. This is a very strong pipe that is bent in a metal fabrication shop on a hydraulic bender with a specific die for the tight radius bend.
